Andy Hinton
An arts graduate and MBA, Andy has worked in the environmental and utility sector for many years, specialising in business development, sales, marketing and customer services. As well as being involved in White Rose Environmental, he put together a series of deals and start-ups that developed Yorkshire Environmental into a diversified £200m business. He was also a director of Yorkshire Water Services, leading the strategic change during the company's move to the top of the OFWAT rankings.
Andy is now Chairman of three of the companies in the Ailsa3 portfolio: Credential Environmental; Sterecycle; and VCU Europa. In 2007, he was also appointed as a non-executive director of WRAP (Waste and Resources Action Programme), the government's delivery body in the area of recycling and resource recovery. Andy is a Trustee of Impetus Trust, a charity specialising in venture philanthropy.
Nick Wyatt
Nick is an engineering graduate and MBA with extensive experience in industrial services, utilities and the environmental sector. He has extensive operational management experience having run operations teams that managed up to £1billion of operational assets, ranging from complex process operations to landfill. Nick also has wide experience of commercial management, including many corporate transactions. A number of these deals have been innovative in approach and created significant value. He has delivered significant organisational change, utilising both technology and leadership qualities. While Nick has worked exclusively in the private sector, a number of his roles have involved significant interaction with the public sector, creating a thorough understanding of both sides of industry.
White Rose Environmental
Andy and Nick were instrumental in the WRE story, recognised as one of the most successful MBI deals completed in recent years.
- specialist waste business collecting medical waste from hospitals, doctors and the pharmaceutical industry
- a subsidiary of Kelda plc until December 2000 when it was then bought by Andy Hinton, Nick Wyatt and Terry Hewitt
- at the time of purchase, the company was trading at a pre-tax loss with an EBITDA of £3.5m
- the new management team moved it into profit within a year and returned a pre-tax profit of £7.2m in the year ending March 2003
- including sale proceeds, the business generated over £53m cash in just four years with investor equity rising from £200k to £36m; an additional £2m was distributed to staff through share schemes
